Type can be tough when your print is a one-inch circle. 🤔 Also, btw & fyi: if you’re going to work with this guy’s face on your screen for a while, don’t expect it to be a pleasant experience. 🤢

A Gorey Baturday
If you follow us regularly, you’ve probably figured out that we have a bit of a thing for the American writer and illustrator Edward Gorey. Gorey had a particular affection for cats, and we’ve featured that affection in a number of our Caturday posts. But today, we return once again to the equally fluffy, but much maligned bat, and Edward Gorey’s idiosyncratic take on this furry fellow.
The images shown here are from Gorey Posters published in 1979 by Harry N. Abrams, Inc. This large, 62-page collection includes the text of an interview with Gorey along with a selection of images from several previous Gorey publications.
Here’s to your recollection of the miseries of childhood. Happy Baturday!

A Gorey Baturday Caturday
Leave it to Edward Gorey to combine our two favorite Saturday themes! This cunning bat escapes not one but two pairs of hungry cats by claiming alternate identities, and skips away to live another day. Have a happy Baturday Caturday, and be whatever you need to be to make it through unscathed.
This is a poem, based on fables from Aesop, by Ennis Rees. The book, Lions and Lobsters and Foxes and Frogs, was published by Young Scott Books in 1971. We featured Gorey donkeys from this book in a previous post.
